Edge in Amsterdam: Why Region Choice Matters

Co-locating the proxy edge with our upstream gateway cut tunnel latency in half. Here is why we picked eu-west.

By Kerem Yıldız ·

Our edge proxy lives in the same Amsterdam metro as our upstream gateway. That single decision shaved p50 round-trip latency from 38ms to 17ms.

## Why latency on the edge matters - Sticky sessions inherit the worst leg of the trip. - TLS resumption only buys back so much. - Customers measure success rate, but they feel latency.

## Picking the region We chose eu-west because: (a) it is the upstream's home, (b) European data residency is a free side benefit, (c) transatlantic add-on latency is symmetrical for our US customer base.
