What the same bandwidth actually costs
Decodo publishes five residential tiers, all quoted before VAT. Here is the same bandwidth in whole dollars on both sides. Their figures are shown excluding VAT, which flatters them: add your local rate to every number in their column.

Their column is one month of the named plan, before VAT. Ours is a single purchase with no VAT added and no expiry, so the gap widens in month two if you have bandwidth left.
A store monitoring competitors at 100 GB a month
Price monitoring is steady work: roughly the same volume every month, every month of the year. At their largest published tier that is $275 a month for 100 GB, or 1,200 GB across the year.
Add VAT to their column and the gap grows again. And because the work is seasonal for most retailers, the months where you monitor less are months where a subscription is still charging you and a package simply is not.
What the numbers above actually mean
The gap holds across the whole curve
This is not one headline tier that looks good and then evaporates. At 5 GB it is $2.00 against $3.75. At 50 GB, $1.80 against $3.00. At 100 GB, $1.70 against $2.75. Past that their public pricing stops entirely and ours continues to $1.19.
Plus VAT is not a rounding error
Their plans are quoted before VAT. Depending on where you are billed that is another fifth on top of every number in their column, charged again every month. The cost table above shows their pre-VAT figures, which is the version most favourable to them.
Compare your worst month, not your average
A subscription sized for your peak is idle capacity the rest of the year. One sized for your average leaves you topping up exactly when you are busiest. Non-expiring bandwidth removes that sizing problem, which is usually worth more than the headline rate.
What switching involves
Decodo and ProxyGen both authenticate with a username that carries targeting, so the migration is mostly a matter of translating one string into another.
- 1Create a package and copy the host, port, username and password. Both services speak standard HTTP CONNECT and SOCKS5.
- 2Move your country and session settings from their username format into ours. The structure is the same idea with different field names.
- 3Check your sticky session duration explicitly. If your job assumes a particular default, set it rather than inherit it.
- 4Keep your existing plan running until its month ends and move traffic gradually. Nothing you buy here expires while you do that.
Questions people ask
Is Decodo the same as Smartproxy?
Yes. Smartproxy rebranded to Decodo. Older reviews and comparison articles referring to Smartproxy describe the same company.
Does my ProxyGen bandwidth reset monthly?
No. There is no monthly cycle. Bandwidth you have paid for stays in your account until you use it.
What happens above 100 GB?
Our curve continues down to $1.19/GB at a terabyte. Decodo does not publish rates above 100 GB on their residential pricing page, so you would need to ask them.
Do your prices include VAT?
The price you see is the price charged. Decodo quotes their residential plans plus VAT, so compare their figure with your local rate added.
Can I try before moving?
Yes. There is a 200 MB free trial, and because packages do not expire you can buy the smallest one and run a real workload against it at your own pace.
Do you support city-level targeting?
Yes, on residential, through a username modifier, along with country targeting across all pool types.
